[Update 20.20 - new photo below] At o7:31 this morning, 17th June, the Oban Lifeboat, Mora Edith MacDonald, was tasked by Stornoway Coastguard to assist a converted Norwegian fishing vessel which had suffered gearbox failure in a position between the Corran Narrows and Fort William.

The Lifeboat arrived on scene shortly before 09.00 – in thick fog.

The volunteer crew quickly took the vessel in tow towards Fort William.

By 09:55 the vessel was secured alongside Fort William pier. By this time the fog had lifted and the lifeboat made its way back to Oban in perfect sunshine.

Mora Edith was back in Oban and ready for service again at 12:12pm.

Oban Lifeboat Coxswain, John Hill says: ‘Once we reached Corran the fog became quite thick. However, using the lifeboats radar we were easily able to locate the vessel’.

Note: The first two photographs above were taken by Oban Lifeboat crew. The third is © Martin Briscoe and was taken in the sunshine after Nybakk had been safely berthed at Fort William pier. Lovely boat.
